Abstract
The present paper proposes DCA (Deceleration for Collision Avoidance) as a new index to determine the warning provision threshold of a FOCWS (Forward Obstacle Collision Warning System). The DCAs in the case when the preceding vehicle keeps the current acceleration and in the case when it will decelerate hardly are defined as ODCA (Overt DCA) and PDCA (Potential DCA), respectively. Numerical simulations are performed to compare the DCAs with the TTC (Time-To-Collision) and MTC (Margin-To-Collision), which are well-known indexes to evaluate the potential collision risk in the situation where the collision risk against the forward obstacle becomes high.
