Abstract
In order to reduce NOx emissions and fuel consumption in a direct injection (DI) diesel engine, we pursued the flow of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) gas in the cylinder, combustion and exhaust emissions characteristics under the internal EGR by the theoretical and experimental method. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained. The flow of EGR gas in the cylinder during the intake and compression stroke was clarified. And we could find the relations between the flow of EGR gas and the engine performance, exhaust emissions and combustion characteristics.
