Abstract
Finite element simulations of full car oblique side collision with a Hybrid III 3 year old dummy and a child FE model seated in the CRS were conducted. Although the head of the Hybrid III 3year old did not make contact with the door, the head of the child FE model impacted the door. The slack added in the CRS harness made the head of the child FE model impact the door at high velocity, and the HIC was comparable with the acceptance level. It was found that the CRS misuse can be a major factors of the head contact with the door, which observed frequently in accidents.
