Abstract
In order to reduce exhaust emissions and the fuel consumption in a direct injection(DI) diesel engine, we pursued the intake swirl ratio and the after injection characteristics under the common rail fuel injection system and the high compression ratio. As a result, we could find the conditions improving the relation between NOx emissions and the fuel consumption. The conditions are to delay the fuel injection timing under the low intake swirl ratio and to have a little after injection near the main injection.
