Abstract
This study aims to comprehend the factors of NOx emission increase and to improve this emission performance in a diesel engine fuelled with biodiesel. In this report, the basic combustion characteristics of biodiesel were analyzed by using a single-cylinder diesel engine with applying double and single injection. In addition, the factors of NOx emission increase were considered in detail with using a zero-dimensional simple cycle simulation model. As a result, the factors of NOx increase in biodiesel seem to be changing of fuel spray characteristics or concentrations of chemical species consumed in expanded Zel dovich mechanism.
