This paper deals with the starting speed control problem for internal combustion engines. A model-based control scheme will be proposed which consists of the fuel injection control loop and the speed regulation loop. For the fuel control, an open loop observer for inlet path is used with gain scheduling during the transient mode, and the speed regulation is conducted by event-based coordinated control between spark advance and throttle. Finally, experimental validation is demonstrated with six-cylinder gasoline engine.
