Abstract
Check-valves often generate severe vibration and noise around the valves. Plug vibrations, which are clearly characterized as the pendulum-like oscillations with both lateral and longitudinal vibrations, were observed through the visualization using a high-speed camera. A two-dimensional numerical simulation based on a coupled analysis of the plug motion with the fluid flow was performed to precisely analyze the phenomena. The simulated results show that the similar plug vibrations were successfully reproduced and found to be self-excited, and that the longitudinal vibration might dominantly affect the noise-generation, because the longitudinal vibration generates pulsations of flow-rate more strongly than the lateral vibration.
