Experimental Study Regarding Margin of Time for a Driver to Take Over Manual Driving Safely in Case of a System Failure of the Automated Driving System

Abstract

While a driver is driving on the highway by using Level 2 Automated Driving System, a system failure occurs, and the main constituent of the driving operation changes from the system to a driver. In this situation, necessary margin of time for a driver to take over manual operation is examined from the experiments conducted for normal drivers by using a driving simulator.
