Abstract

The vibration characteristics of long fiber CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) specimens with the same dimensions are different when the specimens are manufactured using different SMC sheet layout for compression molding. Therefore, we propose a new vibration analysis method using the orientation and stiffness of long fiber tow. The orientation of the fiber tow is obtained from the compression molding analysis, and the stiffness of the fiber tow is calculated using FE (Finite Element) model based on X-ray CT (Computed Tomography) image. The analysis results of this new method correlated well to experimental results of the specimens.
