Abstract

For fuel efficiency improvement, contributing to further reduction in mechanical loss is required to the piston-ring which is powertrain component. However, there are also a lot of cases of lubricating oil consumption increase and abnormal burning caused by oil upward flow. The cylinder bore shape under engine operating condition has much effect, and the sliding surface pressure distribution between the piston ring and the cylinder boa is important about oil transport via the piston ring sliding surface. For clarifying the mechanism of lubricating oil consumption, changes in sliding condition of the piston ring by the cylinder bore shape was evaluated by using of the motoring test device, and details of the piston ring conformability to the cylinder bore was considered in this report.
