Abstract
This paper describes the development of a simplified modeling method to represent fracture of Self-Piercing Riveted (SPR) joints to be used for aluminum die casting. A fracture determination area of the simplified SPR model was modeled by subdivided solid elements. Fracture criteria were determined based on the peel and lap shear tensile tests. The calculated fracture mode and force-stroke history of a structure composed of aluminum die casting and steel sheet parts showed a good correlation with the experimental result.
