Abstract
The scatter-band data to decide the engine hard specification in the early development phase is constructed. As L2 (Level) requirement, thermal efficiency, combustion stability, oil dilution and soot are defined. The average operating conditions are set from mass-production engines and the parameters in L2/L3/L4 are defined empirically. The scatter-band data related to the time loss for thermal efficiency is shown and is confirmed that the connection of parameters are related. For utilization, the system characteristic analysis is performed to understand of the position in scatter-band. From the result of the analysis, the turbulence is enhanced by piston top bowl shape optimization.
