Abstract
To estimate piston skirt friction loss precisely, it is important to comprehend the influence of piston design parameters on the oil supply mechanism. This study aims to clear the influence of piston motion on piston friction and oil supply mechanism. Piston friction and oil film on piston skirt was evaluated by floating liner method and induced fluorescence method. And piston motion was measured by gap sensors installed on piston skirt. This study found piston motion affect friction loss. And it was suggested the location of sliding area on a piston skirt has significant impact on the amount of oil supply.
