Abstract
Hydrogen engines can utilize many technologies built on existing internal combustion engines, and retrofit modifications are also possible. In this paper, characteristics on thermal efficiency and exhaust emissions with developed turbo-charged MPI multi-cylinder ICE using hydrogen fuel modified from diesel ICE were reported. The brake thermal efficiency and NOx emissions characteristics at the operating points equivalent to the WHSC mode were obtained. As a result, engine-out NOx emission level was very low and a potential to below the latest regulation limit at steady operating conditions was acquired.
