Abstract
Automated vehicles are expected to be as a mobility service for securing transportation in rural area of Japan as the communities age. As a first step, this study analyzed the unsafe overtaking cases between a low-speed automated service car and its following on the obtained results and investigated the following driver’s judgement on his/her overtaking and understanding toward the intention when using an external HMI and lateral driving position of an automated service car near curve sections.
