The rubber-roll type rice huller consist of a pair of rubber-rolls which are set with narrow clearance and rotate with different speeds. Paddy rice fed to the clearance between rolls are husked by the contacting pressure of paddy and rolls, and by the frictional force caused by the speed difference of rolls. As a fundamental study, in this paper, we offer an analysis of hulling action of the rubber-rolls with regard to viscoelastic properties of rubber and to paddy shape.
Contacting pressure between the roll and paddy change in a short period. The maximum value of pressure occur at the upper part of the narrowest clearance of rolls (Fig. 4) Factors concerning husking, such as speeds, speed difference, clearance and diameters of rolls, and the size and feeding direction of paddy are discussed.
