The purpose of this study is to clarify problems on cooling and durability which occured during the study on them of the small air-cooled Wankel rotary engine as well as measures. Between the two, the investigation on experimental results of (1) an axial flow air-cooling system of housings, and of (2) a charge cooling system both to lubricate the needle roller bearing, etc. in an induction mixture passage and to cool the rotor with the mixture were discussed in the first report.
Subsquently, various kinds of an endurance test were performed with two prototype engines made by applying standard design parameters and materials, such as materials of housings and gas seals, anti-wear treatment for the silding wall surface of gas seals, gas seal clearances, the necessary quantitity of cooling air, optimum lublicating oil, etc.
The present report deals with (1) the investigation on the results of endurance tests and (2) problems which occured during tests as well as maesures.
