Abstract

The purpose of this study is to optimize the shape of members and whole configuration of tractors, applying structural analysis method. Finite element method (FEM) is the main numerical tools for this specific analysis. As a preliminary analysis, a toplink and a drawbar are served for detailed discussion, and linear static analysis is performed with commercialized software, VISA II. A series of strength test for each prototype is also conducted using the universal tension/compression testing apparatus. From the comparison of both numerical analysis and laboratory test, it can be proved that the software is useful for the estimation of various technological aspects including stress distribution, stress concentration, , strain energy density, for further appropriate modification.
