Two types of fuel delivery calibrators, namely the torque spring apparatus and the angleich apparatus, are generally used as attachments to the engine governor in order to improve the tractor PTO performance, especially the full load performance. The purpose of this research is to clarify the relationship between the fuel delivery calibrators and the tractor full load performance, and then, discuss the design principles of the full load performance. Upon the analysis of the experimental results of eleven tractors of about 15kw, it was evident that there existed a large difference in the design considerations and methods for the full load performance. The effect of each element of the torque spring apparatus on the full load performance was investigated experimentally and the relation of torque spring apparatus and governor mechanics was analyzed theoretically. In the next paper, another fuel delivery calibrator, i. e., the angleich apparatus, will be dealt with.
