Abstract

The mint plantlets were continuously exposed to three kinds of electric field made by the sign lighting transformer, DC positive and negative high voltage power source during culture period. The effect of the electric field on the growth of plantlets was investigated.
The difference of the mint growth owing to the kind of power source was found. In any power source the growth of plantlets exposed to the electric field of ca. 75kV·m-1 was promoted and the exposure to lower or stronger field inhibited their growth. Therefore, it seems that there is the optimum electric field strength for the enhancement of the growth.
Both enhancement and inhibition of plant growth on account of field exposure were remarkable at the root rather than the top.
