Abstract
This study developed a greenhouse shading screen control system energized by a stand-alone power system comprising a 4.8 W amorphous silicon photovoltaic module and a battery with 28Ah capacity in a 5h rate. The shading screen was operated according to the temperature inside the greenhouse. On-site experiments were carried out between July 2004 and August 2004 in a greenhouse (6m in width×20m in length) at Fukuoka Agricultural Research Center. Throughout the experimental period, the shading screen moved 0-2 reciprocations per day (mostly 1 reciprocation per day), without outage, according to the greenhouse temperature. The capacity of the stand-alone power system was sufficient for shading screen operation and the battery capacity remained at almost the full level throughout the experimental period. At very hot moments, the greenhouse interior temperatures were suppressed by the shading screen.
