Effect of Physical Soil Characteristics on Prediction Accuracy of Engine Power for Rotary Tillage

Abstract

The tractor engine power in rotary tillage for calculating fuel consumption was predicted by the simplified estimation method in Hokkaido soil. The PTO shaft output power was predicted from the PTO shaft output energy per tillage volume (kWh/m3). The specific drawbar power that means the ratio of the drawbar power to the engine power was classfied the typical traction efficiency in the different soil series and soil surface conditions. The engine power values were summed up as the PTO shaft output power that was calculated from the physical soil characteristics and the drawbar power that was calculated from the specific drawbar power. A linear regression equation of this engine power versus the engine power calculated from the fuel consumption in the dynamometer test had a high prediction accuracy with the slope of the regression equation around 1.0 except that the fuel consumption engine power was 3 kW higher than that in the dynamometer test. This prediction method has no pratical ploblem in the lowland soil of Sorati region and the andosol soil of Tokachi region.
