In this series of experiment using normal mongrel dogs, we found that the renal artery blood flow/carotid artery blood flow ratio (R/C ratio) was markedly increased by the intraatrial triple balloon pumping (IAtBP), and simultaneously the renal sympathetic nerve activity was decreased by 17%. We conclude that IAtBP has not only the right heart assist effect but also the improving effect of the peripheral circulation through an autonomic nerve reflex, which depressess the sympathetic vasoconstriction.
