Abstract

ydrodynamic characteristics of 24 commercially available valves were studied using our pulse duplicator system and effective orifice area (EOA) of each valves was calculated by modified Gorlin's equation. The results were as follows; 1) EOAs of tilting disc valves (SJM, Hall-Kaster, Omni-Science, CC-Björk) and newly-developed bovine pericardial xenografts (Hancock pericard., Mitroflow, Ionescu low profile) were larger than those of Björk-Shiley (B-S) and Ionescu-Shiley (I-S) at both aortic and mitral position. 2) EOAs of porcine xenografts (Carpentier Supra annular, Biocor, MO-Hancock) were larger than those of B-S and I-S at aortic position. 3) These simulation data demonstrated to be high resemblance to human hemodynamics obtained from postoperative catheterization.
