Abstract

We have used a method of hemodialysis to clear CO² because it was CO² excretion could be achieved effectvely by dialyzing out bicarbonate ion. In our system, dialysate was recirculated, carbonic anhydrase was added to transform bicarbonate ion to carbon dioxide, and an FC-43 emulsion was used for delivering oxygen. The evaluation of this system in faulty gas exchange in vivo is described in the present paper.
