Abstract
Six adult patients underwent permanent pacemaker implantations before or after cardiac surgery. After the clinical assessment of. these patients, we conclude as follows. (1) The electrocardiographic diangnosis of myocardial ischemia in patients with permanent pacemakers may be difficult or sometimes impossible in the presence of intraventricular conduction disturbances. Coronary arteriography should be performed in a patients with angina pectoris as soon as possible. (2) In patients with valvular heart disease or ischemic heart disease, assessment of indications for cardiac surgery should be made after the recovery from brady-cardia. (3) In case of cardiac surgery in the patients with pacemaker, it is important to consider the effect of surgery to the pacemaker. (4) Physiologic pacing has an effective function to improve hemodynamics after cardiac surgery.
