Abstract
In 24 patients receiving coronary bypass surgery during the last one year without preoperative donation of autologous blood, autologous blood collected with the Cell Saver (group C, n=9), the Hemoconcentrator (group H, n=6), or both system (group M, n=9) during operation was retransfused and postoperative amounts of hemorrhage and homologous blood transfusion was compared among those groups. The amount of retransfused blood was 620±176ml in group C, 530±148ml in group H, and 779±287ml in group M and there was significant difference between group M and the other groups. The amount of drainage from chest tubes during 12 hours after operation was 372±159ml in group H, 713±167ml in group M and 720±363 ml in group C and it was the largest amount in group C. Our data suggest that the combined use of Cell Saver and Hemoconcentrator is preferable as an autotransfusion sysfem during cardiac surgery.
