Abstract
We investigated the effect of a new embolus we developed which consists of microspheres composed of polyL-lactic acid in transcatheter hepatic arterial embolization (TAE) in dogs. These microspheres were applied to dogs weighing about 10kg via the left or right hepatic artery. We observed dogs for 4 to 6 weeks thereafter and dissected them to investigate the ischemic effects after TAE. Histologically, liver infarction on the embolic side were confirmed and we could prove the ishemic effect of these microspheres. However this ishemic effect caused extensive hemorrhagic infarction of the liver and pulmonary bleeding and some dogs died within a week after TAE. Therefore we will investigate both dose and size of microspheres in the future.
