Abstract
In previous experiments, we demonstrated that by applying Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy with an attenuated total reflection (AIR) prism, serum and whole blood glucose concentrations could be measured quantitatively. In FTIR-ATR absorption spectra through mucous membrane of lip, however., there was no linear response between blood glucose concentrations and the intensities of absorbption. We, therefore, normalized the spectral changes due to the attachment of mucous membrane of lip to an AIR prism by the second derivatives of absorption spectra at 2920cm-1, and then demonstrated that highly significant correlation between blood glucose concentrations and the second derivatives of absorption spectra at 1033cm-1 could be obtained.
