Abstract
Laminate membranes of collagen and CO3 apatite-collagen composites were prepared as an artificial periodontal membrane. The laminate membranes UV-irradiated were insoluble in saline solution (37°C, 1 month) and showed the highest tensile strength with 67wt% CO3 apatite. The degree of insolubilization was the highest at 4hr-UV irradiation. When they were implanted into rat abdomen for 2 wks, no significant inflammation was observed and a newly created connective tissue-like substance bonding between soft tissue and implanted membrane was seen. Under the periosteum of rabbit tibia, the laminate membrane showed good bio-compatibility. The laminate membrane is useful for the application to the lack portion of periodontal membrane and widely soft and hard tissues as substitution materials.
