Abstract
A vascular prosthesis has been devised using a newly non-woven cloth after repeated fundamental studies. The non-woven cloth adequate for medical use has been produced which is made of polyester fibrics (Tetoron) bound with latex rubber (Regitex M).
This newly developed vascular prosthesis has inner and outer layer of non-woven cloth and layer of latex rubber in between. Therefore the prosthesis has high porous surface (velour-like) and elasticity itself, but which has no porosity that means no permeability between the inner and outer space.
In experimental study these prosthesis were implanted into the canine's abdominal aorta. After 6 years the prosthesis remained patent without stricture aneurysmal dilatation or calcification. And then thin and homogeneous neointima has been formed on the inner surface of prosthesis dispite of no porosity.
Recently the prostheses have been applicated clinically for reconstruction of the small arteries.
