Abstract
IABP was utilized in mongrel dogs with cardiogenic shock caused by occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery. It's emodynamic effectiveness was proved by increase in cardiac output, increase in LV max dp/dt and decrease in left ventricular enddiastolic pressure. It's metabolic effectiveness was the increase of Cyclic-AMP in the infarcted myocardium. IABP satisfactorily supported two patients who were in severe cardiogenic shock after open heart surgery. It was concluded that IABP was useful procedure for cardiogenic shock and severe postcardiotomy state.
