Study on the artificial muscles driven by the hydrogen storage alloy

Abstract

A mechanical device driven by volume change in the course of H₂ sorption reaction by hydrogen storage alloy was made up and tested. To investigate the effect of electric current on the mechanical strain, in this study, electric resistance and mechanical starin were measured under various electric currents. From the results obtained, the test device could be expected as an artificial muscle driving with H₂ sorption reaction, which could be controlled by electric current.
