Materials research for medical catheter

Abstract

A new actuator for medical catheter is developed, which is operated by volume expansion of hydrogen storage alloy. A testing actuator using LaNi₃Co₂powder exhibited reversible shape change by changing the hydrogen gas pressure. A large strain change was obtained by alterative flowing of pure H₂ gas and Ar-5%H₂ gas mixture.
