Development of a V-CAM system and its application to manufacturing

Abstract

A new CAD system, Volume-CAD (VCAD), has been developed. We carried out research and development of the VCAD fabrication process based on VCAD/CAM precision control. In this study, the developed V-CAM or nanoprecision V-CAM (Nano V-CAM) was used in manufacturing inspection of asphelical lenses or free-form surfaces to determine system performance. These have been used in a fundamental experiment to investigate polishing of a free-form surface. The relationship between NC resolution and form accuracy of polished surface are discussed.
