Abstract
We have examined both the fixed abrasive lapping characteristics using diamond pellets (DP) and optimization of the DP layout method in lapping platen both theoretically and experimentally. This paper explains the effects of DP surface area ratio of lapping platen. Moreover, we also discuss the wear characteristics of DP lapping platen examining both the conventional and optimization of the DP layout method. The results indicated that the waviness of the lapped workpiece decreases with the increment of DP surface area ratio, and showed a similar tendency to the theoretical result. The optimization effect of the DP layout method is obtained with changes in the DP surface area ratio. Finally, the wear amount of the optimized DP layout method increased slightly in comparison with the conventional DP layout method.
