Abstract
This paper describes the influence of the cutting atmosphere and carbon content on surface roughness and tool wear in CO2-blow cutting of carbon steel with a diamond tool. The cutting tests were carried out by changing the cutting atmosphere and carbon contents to investigate the effects on surface finish and reduction of tool wear. The results indicated that the roughness of the finished surface was improved by cutting under a flow of CO2 gas and the tool wear increased with decreases in carbon content.
