Abstract

There is a growing demand for improvements in production sites using machine tools, not only in production but also in the environment, such as improved working environments and reduced CO2 emissions. Optimal control of mist collectors according to the amount of mist generated is required to achieve both power savings and improved collection performance. However, there has been no systematic research to quantitatively monitor the amount of mist inside machine tools, and a practical method to solve this problem is needed. In this study, the degree of atmospheric turbidity was quantified in terms of recognizable distance and other factors, and a theoretical study of mist concentration was conducted using changes in visual range. Furthermore, the relationship between visibility and mist concentration was examined using a camera inside a machine tool. Guidelines for mist collector control were developed based on the camera images, and examined for mist collector control.
