ESTIMATION OF COMPETITIVE ABILITY AND ITS RELATION TO FITNESS IN RICE HYBRID POPULATION

Abstract

Estimation of competitive ability per plant in a rice hybrid population was inbestigated by using a new method. Population mean and variance of panicle weight, plant weig'ht and ear number showed a larger value by competition effect. The plants of intermediate or lesser panicle weight were superior competitor, while those of heavier panicle weight were inferior competitor.
