Abstract
Although the caryopsis of the rice plant develops under the restriction of the size and shape of floral glumes, the genetic paths determining these two organs have some partial difference. Thus a genetic unbalance between the potential dimention of caryopsis and the magnitude of floral glumes appears, and caryopsis highly exceeding the size of floral glumes tended to notch itself and/or crack the hull.
