Abstract

A detailed observation in strawberry anther culture was made of structural changes during its regeneration to a plantlet, using scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. Meristematic activities caused the c.allus occurrence in the vicinity of vascular bundles in the connective. Callus masses grew both in the longitudinal slit occurred on cultured anther and in the outside of anther walls. From surface views, it was indicated that the coating with smooth membrane made the rough surface of callus masses alter the epidermis of leafy structure. Presence of bubble-like vesicles in intercellular spaces and abundant granules of lipid in the cells was observed prevailingly in the anther cultures.
