Abstract
1. A pair of twin seedlings has been fourd among the F1 of an interspecific cross between C. maxima and C. moschata in 1952 (Photo. 1). 2. The somatic chromosome number has been determined to be 20 in each twin plant instead of 40, and tb.at shows it is a pair of haploid twin seedlings . 3, The hapioid plants are similar to the maternal plants in the morphologicai characters and reduced in size with all organs as compored with diplods (Table 1). The male flowers, bearing white or brown empty anther, do not bloom in the field, but bioom in the glass house, though poorly as compared with female fiowers (Table 2). The femaie flowers bloom in abundance and grow into fruits, if pollinated by normal pollen of diploid plants. But the fruits have no viable seeds.
