Abstract
As a Technicon's SMA 12/60 (Survey type) Auto Analyzer was introduced to our clinical chemistry laboratory to perform a major role in our routine works, a point was raised particularly from the pediatric department where the amount of serum required (2 ml) was considered to be oo great. In order to solve the problem and improve precision of the re- sults, the following modifications of the SMA 12/60 system have been accomplished.
1. Introduction of predilution system for all channels and ultra violet methods to LDH, GOT and GPT (substituted for glucose channel) using automatic blank correction without a dialyzer, as previously reported by us.
2. Substitution of the bromocresol green method for the HABA method in albumin channel to minimize interference by bilirubin in serum.
3. Removal of a preheating bath from uric acid channel to decrease carry-over contami- nation and addition of a time-delay coil to cholesterol channel to increase the sensitivity of the method.
As a result of the modifications, the sample volume per profile was reduced to 0.4 ml without any sacrifice in speed, accuracy or precision, and the devised system has been successfully performed in our laboratory over 16 months.
