Abstract

Clinical laboratory has recently come to play an important role in the field of sports science. Data obtained from clinical laboratory have been used in science-based coaching and training for athletic sports. The increased use of data obtained from clinical laboratory due to development of simple and inexpensive measurement devices and the development of measurement methods with low or no invasiveness is also the result of progress in clinical laboratory. Progress in testing techniques for the control of doping has also contributed greatly to detection of doping cases. On the hand, new techniques for doping that make doping difficult to detect have also become available due to cooperation among researchers in clinical laboratory. It is expected that clinical laboratory will play an increasingly important role in sports science in the future. Education in not only medical ethics but also sports ethics will therefore become important.
