By analyzing the root causes of design revisions—a primary factor in extended lead times and rising costs in manufacturing—and incorporating the perspective of "diverse variability" into the problem-setting phase, it becomes possible to establish a basic design methodology that prevents downstream backtracking. When the potential variability of design information is anticipated at the basic design stage, product specifications and design scenarios can be represented as parametric models. By utilizing these models to conduct exhaustive pre-evaluations of diverse design combinations through CAE, designers ensure that an optimal solution meeting given requirements is always available for selection. This methodology is defined as "Pre-emptive Design." We demonstrate that this approach significantly enhances the quality of basic design and maximizes the effectiveness of CAE utilization in the development process.
