Abstract

 In order to verify the applicability of the cathodic protection methods to San-yo Shinkansen RC viaducts, the method with impressed current system has been tested since 2003. And galvanic anode system has also been tested since 2010. As results of follow-up investigations, it was confirmed that all of the cathodic protection methods generally satisfied the criterion of cathodic protection and maintained the corrosion prevention function. Future application of the cathodic protection methods will be determined based on the structural type of the viaducts or corrosion grade of the reinforcing steel in concrete, as well as the life-cycle cost and the surrounding environment.
