REVISION OF TECHNOLOGICAL CRITERIA ON REPAIR AND REINFORCEMENT WORK FOR RAILROAD TUNNELS AND IMPROVEMENT OF MAINTENANCE SYSTEM IN JR EAST

Abstract

 This paper outlines management system of maintenance for railway tunnels in JR East. JR East maintains and manages railroad tunnels, with numbers of about 1,200 and extension of about 950 km. So, the efficiency of maintenance management for JR East’s tunnels is required to be improved. As a result of analysis, it was thought to be rational that the condition of each tunnel is evaluated based on engineer’s evaluation. Then, we describe the revision of technological criteria on repair and reinforcement work. The criteria are the result of accumulation of knowledge of inspection, evaluation of condition of tunnels, and repair and reinforcement technique, by JR East’s expert engineers. With the revised criteria, repair and reinforcement techniques on tunnels are improved. And the technology of JR East’s engineers is also improved.
