Abstract
Elastic bending analyses of slabs subjected to a vertical load or a moment through a rigid column, as seen in a flat slab or footing, are carried out using a 3 D-isoparametric FEM. Numerical results for various slab-depths, column-sizes and loading conditions are rearranged to propose an effective width available for design of these slabs. Comparision of the proposed effective width and that by the JSCE standard specifications for concrete is also discussed.
