Abstract
Modem urban and regional traffic and transport planning has to be carried out according to a sophisticated planning process. It must be goal-oriented. The main goals should be the reduction of private car traffic and the operation of the remaining car traffic compatibly with social and environmental conditions but also the improving of accessibility and the ensuring of cost-effective operating of traffic and transport. There are goals' conflicts.
Urban and regional traffic and transport planning has to be performed in two different ways on two different levels of planning. All measures for improving the traffic and transport situation have to form a bundle, in which the measures of traffic and transport management play a decisive role.
Some new developments demonstrate the current fields of activity of urban and regional traffic and transport planners.
