Abstract
Analytical prediction of vortex-induced oscillation of bridges is treated based on the Scanlan's semi-empirical nonlinear model. The effects of self-excited forces which produce aerodynamic damping and the effects of imperfect spanwise correlation of vortex-induced forces are incorporated in the analysis. A wind-tunnel test of 3-dimensional model of cable-stayed bridge produced responses consistent with the proposed analysis using aerodynamic parameters identified by 2-dimensional model tests in both laminar and turbulent flows.
